JONATHAN WHITE

Aiming to be Guideline’s next operations associate

Hi! I'm Jonathan (he/him)

and holy cats do I want to be your next operations associate!

TL;DR: this role is totally dreamy to me, and I beleive that my experiences, skills and interests mean I’d be a good fit as the next member of your team!

A company that actually cares about people? An analytical role, where effective, efficient communication is valuable? Where both my love of Excel and my deep-seated interest in the experience of customers/end-users would be useful?! Be still my soul!

In undergrad I studied art (I like to think of it as a degree in creative problem solving), but I was also the only art major taking financial accounting classes as electives. In law school, the only course where I received the highest grade in my class was one focused on research and analysis (specifically in the application of constitutional law). I’ve long been proud of the fact that the school I attended teaches/prizes plain English legal writing - emphasizing the value of making complex issues approachable. Shortly after school I moved to Nashville to “see about a girl” (to quote Goodwill Hunting), and started a career in fintech…

Since moving to “Music City” I’ve been honing the skills that should help me help Guideline - I was an implementation analyst and product owner at a small hometown startup that quickly got acquired by SaaS company IPREO, where I got good at connecting disparate teams and breaking technical information into actionable pieces (and where, I’m proud to say, my emails to clients routinely became templates for my division because they were so effective!). All of our work there fell within tight regulatory frameworks that were an integral part of daily life.

Then I was a marketing and community manager for a niche boutique marketing agency, where I honed my troubleshooting and de-escalation skills while interacting regularly with executives and end-users, in bleeding-edge financial tech where regulations were new and always needed to be researched and updated internally.

And now I’m an analyst at a JP Morgan company that manages equity plans. I’ve become the sort of person who gets kind of annoyed when his Excel keyboard shortcuts don’t work in other apps (I once made a pivot table version of my resume just for FUN!), and who learned SQL outside of work because it meant a greater ability to examine and manipulate data. I handle sensitive financial data every day, navigate and triage my to-do list using Jira as a ticketing system, and do my best to ensure clients and end-users feel like royalty.

I also proudly did a stint as a stay-at-home dad, which taught me patience, focus, listening and clear communication skills in a way few other experiences can.

All that to say: I’m a creative and deeply analytical nerd who cares a lot about emotional intelligence and subject matter expertise that can be effectively communicated so that it’s approachable and actionable.

I come alive when I get to learn new things, solve meaningful puzzles, and make sure that clients and end-users are well cared-for. In the middle of a three-circle Venn diagram connecting objective analysis, kind & effective communication, and creative problem solving, we find my professional happy place. :) I would love the chance to come alive building a career at Guideline.

To sum up: I am a fan of your people-first culture and your desire to create meaningful products, and I believe I’d be a great fit as the newest member of your onboarding team!.
